Quick RomWire Review – Hoarded by the Dragon

Hoarded by the Dragon is a super explicit paranormal standalone romance that takes place in contemporary fantasy world and features accidental pregnancy and forced proximity tropes. It is well written, funny, and with surprising moments of depth.

Synopsis (courtesy of Thistles, Thorns, & Fables):

A thief doing a final job and the dragon caught in a precarious situation that changes both of their lives.
He’s powerful and wealthy and he hates me.
But I have something he wants.
It wasn’t a part of the plan.
I’m the thief stupid enough to break into a dragon’s hoard… and walk away pregnant with his baby.

Thoughts:

  • Katarina is a witch, art restorer and ex-thief who breaks into Kalos’ mansion during his yearly “heat” to steal one last item, but leaves with more than she bargained for . . . (spoiler alert: a pregnancy).
  • Kalos is a cold, powerful, rich, possessive and grieving dragon (in human-ish form) who does not believe he can ever mate again after the loss of his previous mate and child.
  • Did I mention that Kalos has two d*cks? And that one of those is ribbed? And that the other one has a knot? Yeah… Be prepared for sex scenes that are romantic yet push envelope into the realm of erotica.
  • The paranormal and fantasy world-building is second to the relationship development of the main characters. If readers want to know even more about this fantasy world, they will likely need to read Lillian’s Lark’s Monstrous Matches series.
  • Author could have pushed plot and characters further (given their complex backgrounds), but this novel is perfect for readers looking for just enough angst and a hell of a lot of dragon steam. I read this book over the course of one afternoon.
  • Finally, I will be the first to state that I normally stay away from anything close to “monster romance”. I just don’t see the appeal. That said, Hoarded by the Dragon was entertaining enough, spicy enough and human enough to push the boundaries of my romance reading…
